La Travesía Destilado De Agave is made from Espadín agave grown in the Mexican region of Oaxaca. The distillate reflects the beauty of the land and the purity of this plant. La Travesía is produced using the best practices and experience of the Arellanes family, which has been producing agave distillates for eleven generations. The name La Travesía (translated as The Journey) refers to the journey of the plant from the seedling to the product itself.
The La Travesía brand is part of the True Believers portfolio, products created to bring premium spirits to the market at a competitive price. Distillates were created in cooperation with the best distilleries, completely transparently and with regard to the needs of contemporary bartenders.
Specifically, this agave distillate comes from the Mexican distillery Real de Minas. The production is guarded by the Arellanes family, who have been growing and distilling agaves for more than eleven generations in Oaxaca. Real de Minas is a place where the past meets the present, ancient tradition meets modern charms. A place where fire and earth meet and where mezcal of exceptional quality is created.
Production takes place using traditional methods. The agave, which is harvested 6-8 years after planting, is cooked for over 30 hours in a kiln made of quarried limestone. The juice is then extracted and followed by three days of wild fermentation in open vats in the open air. Distillation itself takes place in a copper alembic pot in small batches to ensure the unique taste of this mezcal.
The aroma is full of minerals and smoky agave accentuated by notes of roasted pineapple with a hint of dried herbs. The smoky notes in the taste transition to the sweetness of tropical fruit, cherry and tobacco, which is mixed with mineral saltiness and earthy notes of roasted peppers and mushrooms. The finish is long-lasting, slightly dry.
